MKD Head chairs DanceSoc

Butch L. Ferrer, Me,dal Kolon Datal’s Artistic Director, was elected Chairman of the South Cotabato Dance Society last January 12,2005 held at the Provincial Planning and Development Office. On the other hand, MKD’s resident choreographers Marella L. Ferrer and Vivien Marie L. Ferrer were also elected to office as Secretary and Vice-Chairman for Koronadal Cluster, respectively. The society is under the umbrella of the South Cotabato Culture and Arts Foundation, Incorporated.

His first project immediately after being elected, Ferrer launched the Choreographers’ Showcase during the conduct of the “Kawayan Festival:, a component of the National Arts Month celebration last February, 2005, in response to the National Commission on Culture and Arts call to make culture “tool for creating identities and social transformation.” The showcases featured different choreographic works of the members in the folkdance, neo-classic ballet and contemporary/modern dance genre.

As head of the provincial dance society, Ferrer envisions the creation of the South Cotabato Cultural Studies Center, repository of researches on the culture of Lumads, Maguindanaons and Christian settlers, their dances, music rituals, traditions and crafts, accessible to all cultural workers and stakeholders. Initial proposed budget for the center is P2.5M on a five-year realization period.

We are open for your invitations!
